Retro Mid & Shortboards
With a progressive move in the late 60's, Dewey pushed the envelop with this sub 9ft. transition shape. The STRATO SERIES always encompassed the R&D division for Weber, & the STRATO MINI-FEATHER certainly challenged conventional thinking at that time. Ranging between 7'0" - 8'6", this single fin offers the versatility & maneuverability of a short board with the trim, glide, & paddling speed of a longboard. It has the longboard outline similar to our FEATHER but the slightly more modern characteristics of our FASTBACK (hard edge & slight 'V' in tail). This board is different than almost anything on the market....Time to get your RETRO' on!!
A transition era shape, designed by Dewey and Nat Young in the early seventies, The FEATHER FASTBACK is a pin tail built for speed in the pocket & large carving cutbacks. This single fin offers the versatility & maneuverability of a short board with the trim, glide, & paddling speed of a longboard. This board is a great shorter board for you longboarder’s out there & a great small wave board for you shortboarder’s.
A throwback to a different time, this mid-length board has its own look and feel. S.K.I. stands for Synthetic Kinetic Instinct & it was one of the first planing hulls of the transition era. At the time, this board combined several different design principles that Dewey & his team were experimenting with. This board was strongly influenced by Dewey & former Weber Team riders Nat Young, Mike Tabeling & Harold Iggy. This was the board Nat was riding in the cult surf video “Morning of the Earth.” We were inspired to re-introduce the SKI to our line of retro shortboards because by 2006, it was the most requested model that we didn’t offer. Like many of our transition shapes, this board was the future of surfng. The SKI turns sick from the tail, yet cruises from the middle & even noserides under the right conditions.
This board is pure unadulterated fun. That is what “pig,” has always meant in the Weber tradition of performance surfboards. It’s the one thing that all of the pigs we’ve ever built over the years have in common. Anyone can ride this board & have a great time. The Pig is small & playful with that ‘old school’ volume. Did you say twin-fin? The Weber swallow tail series of the 1970’s produced 3 models; the Fish, the Swish, & the Swallow Tail. The Fish was short & wide. The Swallow Tail was slim & sleek. The Swish is the perfect combination of the two. Most important was the soft, curved innermost part of the vee bottom for control, staying power, & thrust. The SWISH is a split tail board that will increase your performance in any type of surf. Also, available as a quad.
Dewey designed this single fin as the perfect retro shortboard. In fact, almost every original Easy Rider made in the 70’s was shaped by Dewey, as Iggy had moved back to Hawaii. With its width, this board will give you great flotation in a shorter board and would be perfect at a racy beach break. Made primarily as a sand finish, this board is light & playful. The Easy Rider also works unreal as a quad & we routinely build it as a 4+1 to create multiple options.
The Flying Pig is a ‘full-bodied’ modern thruster. It tuns similar to a high pro shorty but has enough volume to keep you in the game when it’s small. This board is reminiscent of the Weber high performance shortboards of the 1980’s. Keep in mind, we were the first traditional surfboard company to go short in 1968. We know short as well as long ... it’s all about our quality and performance criteria. We enhance the ride in any size surfboard.
